Operation Short Change: the economic downturn has been tough on legitimate businesses, but conmen are doing just fine. The Federal Trade Commission says confidence schemes, Madoff-like Ponzi operations and get-rich-quick scams, are exploding. There has been a huge government crackdown, but you still need to be careful. The take home: there is very little easy money out there.
