Speculation mounts after Southwest's plane order

For months now we have been hearing how 2011 will be the year prices for airline tickets sky rocket. Well, not so fast. It seems Southwest may be throwing a monkey wrench in that plan. The low cost carrier has just changed a major order with Boeing, asking for larger planes. Here’s the interesting part: the new larger planes can fly longer, faster and that puts overseas routes within reach. That is causing speculation: will Southwest start flying to Hawaii, Mexico or even Asia and Europe.  This matters because wherever Southwest flies, fares tend to be substantially cheaper.

How Disney tackles long lines

The happiest place on earth could be just a little happier if we didn’t have to stand in line. Disney knows that and has a plan.

Shoppers today are asking, “Where are the deals?”

Shoppers looking for the kind of blow out deals they got last year the week after Christmas are disappointed. There are sales, they are spotty and the most sought after items are not being heavily discounted. Retailers were ready for sluggish sales this year, so ordered less. Shoppers tired of recession spending, bought more. Put the two together and you have retailers that are not in panic mode.  Sure they have items they want to clear out heading into the spring season, but not so much they feel the need to do ‘anything’ to make a sale. If you are determined to find a deal look at moderate and inexpensive items, the higher end sold so well there is little discounting going on.
