Discover Card has had a really cool feature where when used online the credit card number changed. Every purchase, a different number. That stops the thieves. But now the Discover people have called a halt to the program. If I had to guess, we all said we wanted it, but then few actually used it. Our good friends over at the Consumerist.com have the low down.

This kind of information is really needed now a days specially many people may experience, once in a while, a problem with their cards.

This seemed like a good idea to change your credit card number after every purchase. That would make it hard to follow for identity theives. That happened to me and my credit score took a dive for awhile.

Sorry to hear they ended the program. Sounds like another great way to try and stay one step ahead of thieves. I assume there was a lot more to it like fees that deterred many from actually trying it.

Ya, it is too bad that they removed this program. Now our cards are more accessible to thieves and hackers. I hope that they come up with another program to replace this.
