Good morning from Building 4 at Apple's Cupertino headquarters. The sun has broken through the clouds, and the media have been lined up outside to get their sky blue badges for entry to the 10am (PT) event. It's an event that is drawing considerable interest because of the anticipated debut of the next-gen iPhone, the iPhone 5, and possibly an iPhone 4G.
There's also speculation there could be an update on the release of iOS5, Apple's mobile operating system, which was previewed at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, and on the rollout of iCloud, the service for storing all of your media (video, music, photos, documents, etc.) on Apple's servers, instead of occupying space on flash storage or hard drives inside the iPod, iPad and laptop.
Also expected is an announcement of Sprint getting the iPhone.
We're now upstairs being served continental breakfast, coffee and cappuchinos. The event is sitll 38 minutes away. We'll be here, blogging live, so join us to learn the latest Apple news. So this is your invitation to the next-best thing to a front row seat at this by-invitation only event.
New CEO Tim Cook is probably going to preside over today's event with assistance from Phil Schiller, Apple's chief marketing person.
