Why you should wait to buy peanut butter

Earlier this year the price of peanut butter went up by a third. Bay Area families felt that sting, but there is some good news ahead. This year's peanut crop is coming in strong which means the price of peanut butter should drop. Figure on 20% less. So put off stocking up on the staple till you just have to buy.

Fake lottery scam

The fake lottery scam is branching out. For years it has preyed on seniors asking for money to 'pay taxes on the winnings', now the scamsters are moving into new territory: diverting social security checks.  The scamsters say the senior has won the lottery and the money will be sent directly to their account. The bad guys ask for their names and bank account numbers so they can forward the winnings. Instead the scamsters send a notice to the Soical Security administration directing the monthly payment be rerouted to a new account. Slick. Tell your parents what to watch out for.

$50K for best idea to stop robocalling

The Federal Trade Commission has come up with a plan to stop illegal Robocalls. It is offering $50,000 to the best technical solution that will block illegal telemarketing calls. The agency says, “The FTC is attacking illegal robocalls on all fronts, and one of the things that we can do as a government agency is to tap into the genius and technical expertise among the public...”

Free credit score for Wells Fargo customers
